The Woodland Carbon Code currently requires projects to be registered before work begins on site. Peatland Code guidance requires baseline site survey before restoration takes place, and Peatland Code projects are independently validated and verified.

AI as deadline protection
An estate AI system can maintain a carbon-project control register. It can know which parcels are being considered, which schemes may apply, which pre-start steps are mandatory, and which evidence is missing.
It can also flag operational triggers. If fencing, deer control, ground preparation, planting, or restoration work is scheduled, the system can check whether the required pre-start evidence exists.
That is where value is protected: before the team accidentally crosses a line.
The role of humans
Professional advisers still need to determine eligibility, methodology, baseline quality, carbon accounting, and legal arrangements. AI should not fake those judgements.
But it can make sure the right information reaches the right person before the critical date passes.

Carbon projects run over long horizons. The value of the asset depends on disciplined administration from the beginning.
